Wow, it was a hectic week. In the good I’m-busy-at-work and had-plans-in-the-evening kind of way. The weekend called for some recharging, and turned out to be a pretty good balance of getting some stuff done and relaxing. Some happenings:
- a few competitive games of set
- some 2010 trip scheming over indian food
- the conclusion of generation kill
- got frames for the nikki mcclure prints bought last week at the giant robot gallery
- a few cappuccinos worth of work at insomnia cafe
- reliving a roadtrip through photos [trying to select some to print?]
- a swimming lesson [this week, practicing arms]
- a new running route
- a sunday photowalk plan foiled by the rain [?!]
- replaced with cozy football + knitting
- and a delicious beef stew [only missing a crusty baguette]
- a new iron chef + photo editing
The five-day forecast is: rain rain rain rain rain.

Welcome to what has been consuming my free time this week.
Thrill the World is a worldwide, simultaneous dance of Thriller in an attempt to break a Guinness World record. I heard about LA’s event last year right before it happened, and got so excited about it that I vowed to do it this year. On Monday, all the Halloween buzz made me remember it, and I was swearing when I realized it was this weekend…
I didn’t think I’d be able to pull it off in time, but there is a whole series of youtube tutorials by Ines Markell, the founder of Thrill the World, to break it down into segments. I learned most of the basic moves in an evening, and the last bit at a practice session last night- still working on the sequence of all the sections. The whole thing is so incredibly fun to dance!
Last year 4,179 zombies danced to Thriller worldwide, and since this year’s event has obviously become a tribute to MJ as well, the numbers are expected to be much higher: 400+ teams, 10-50,000 dancers?! The LA team itself is bound to be huge- the west side practice had probably 100 people alone. The big event is this Saturday, 5:30pm PST.
So dorky and so fun! Rock on!

I must admit, seeing this lifesize+ Oscar (see scale figures, left) at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts was a little jolting. He’s pretty badass, and I kind of wanted to go pose next to him, maybe give him a hug (you know, like you do with the guards at Buckingham Palace), but since there was an attendant nearby I figured if I ever wanted to take advantage of free screenings again, I probably shouldn’t.
what’s a girl gotta do to get some fall around here?
