Big Bear Lake, San Bernardino National Forest

I was a little surprised at the lack of hikers at Big Bear, seeing how crowded the campgrounds were and how many people seemed to be in Big Bear for the weekend. Guess it’s less of a hiking destination and more of a lake recreation type place in the summer (I would definitely like to go back in the winter to ski). Anyway, that meant less crowded trails, awesome. And it was nice to actually set up the tent in daylight and cook- on the roadtrip we definitely became experts at setting up in the dark and packing up at the crack of dawn to get back on the road.

I want to check out more hikes in Angeles Nat’l Forest next- it’s really incredible that a short drive from LA will get you out of the smog and into the mountains.
